Sedalia, Mo-The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners softball team swept a pair of games from Allen County Community College on Saturday, March 7 in Sedalia, Mo. SFCC (5-5) won the opening game 10-8 and the second game of the doubleheader 12-2 in five innings because of the run rule.
In game one, freshman outfielder Madelyn Backes of Bonnots Mill led the SFCC offense with three hits, including a double and a home run, two runs scored, and four RBIs. Freshman outfielder/utility player Jillian Reller of Elsberry added a pair of doubles and two runs scored. Sophomore utility player Jenna Herald of Monett recorded a double and a home run. Herald drove in two runs and scored one. Sophomore pitcher/utility player Valerie Meyer of Houstonia contributed a double. Freshman pitcher/second baseman Grace Evans of Fulton also added a double. The SFCC offense put together 12 hits as a team.
Sophomore pitcher/2nd baseman Elana Clark of Maysville got the start in the circle for SFCC. Clark pitched six innings and gave up seven runs, three earned runs on eight hits, struck out four, and walked four to earn the victory for SFCC. Freshman pitcher Addison Wallace of Carthage finished the game in the circle for SFCC.
In game two, SFCC continued to swing the bats well putting together 14 hits as a team. Freshman utility player Jaden Mauzey of Mendon had three hits to lead the offense. Sophomore first baseman/outfielder Courtney Dehn of Dearborn had a pair of doubles and scored a pair of runs. Sophomore catcher Chelsye Graham of Ash Grove had two hits, including a double and two runs scored to go along with three RBIs. Backes had two more hits, including a double and a home run, two runs scored, and three RBIs. Sophomore third baseman/catcher Natalie Crumpler of Exeter had a pair of hits, including a home run, three RBIs, and a run scored. Freshman utility player Shyanne Weibrecht of Perryville scored a pair of runs.
Freshman pitcher Corinne Tuck of Braymer got the start in the circle for SFCC. Tuck pitched four innings, gave up one run on two hits, struck out six, and walked four to earn the victory. Evans pitched one inning, gave up one run on two hits, and struck out one.
"We played two complete games today," said Lady Roadrunners head coach Michele Rupard. "All of our pitchers stepped up today when it was their time. Today, we had some really good at-bats. Overall, we had a really good day at the plate as a team. It was important for us to play well after missing some games due to the weather."
SFCC will return to action on Thursday, March 12 at home against Metropolitan Community College in a pair of Region 16 contests. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
