SFCC loses Region 16 match to Mineral Area

Sedalia, Mo. The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners men's soccer team fell 3-1 in a match against Mineral Area College on Wednesday night, Oct. 8 at the Smith-Cotton Soccer Field.

Mineral Area scored off a corner kick with 10 minutes and 21 seconds remaining in the opening half. Mineral Area took the 1-0 advantage into halftime.

SFCC (3-9, 2-2 in Region 16) responded with a goal from freshman striker Mohammad Sami Goodarzi off an assist from sophomore striker Nathan McCollin with 43 minutes and 22 seconds remaining in the contest.

Mineral Area scored off another corner kick to take the lead 2-1 with 20 minutes and 48 seconds remaining in the match. Mineral Area would add one more goal with less than 10 minutes remaining to provide the winning margin.

Sophomore goalkeeper Michele Tafani got the start in goal for SFCC.

"I thought we competed well," said head coach Michael Poropat. "Unfortunately, we have work to do when it comes to defending corner kicks. This is college soccer, players are good enough that if you give them an extra opportunity they are going to capitalize."

The Roadrunners will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 11 with a match against Crowder College in Neosho, Mo. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
