Lady Roadrunners earn sixth consecutive win
The ninth-ranked State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners women’s basketball team used a big second half to erase a 10-point halftime deficit to earn a victory over Crowder College 79-71 on Saturday, Feb. 21 in Neosho, Mo.
The ninth-ranked State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners women's basketball team used a big second half to erase a 10-point halftime deficit to earn a victory over Crowder College 79-71 on Saturday, Feb. 21 in Neosho, Mo. The game was part of the Region 16 schedule for both teams.
SFCC (26-1, 10-1 in Region 16) turned it up on both ends of the floor. SFCC fought back to tie the game at 54 with about two minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Lady Roadrunners grabbed a 60-57 lead at the end of three quarters.
SFCC stretched their advantage to 10 with less than nine minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Crowder refused to go away on their home floor cutting the SFCC advantage to 76-71 with about a minute remaining in the contest.
SFCC made the plays in the final minute to secure another important Region 16 victory.
Freshman guard Chloe Reed of Wentzville, Mo. registered a double-double with 29 points and 10 rebounds. Reed dished out a team-high five assists. Reed also tied for the team-high in blocked shots with three with freshman guard Kamaree Pollard of Mt. Vernon, Ill. Sophomore guard Zoe Newland of St. Louis, Mo. contributed 17 points. Sophomore forward Ellie Buscher of St. Louis, Mo. put together yet another double-double with 12 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. Sophomore guard Sophia Edwin of Killeen, Texas added 11 points. Freshman forward Taylor Wilson of Copperas Cove, Texas pulled down 11 rebounds.
SFCC will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 25 in their final regular-season home contest against Moberly Area Community College. Tipoff from the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
