Sedalia, Mo.-The ninth-ranked State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners women's basketball team got off to a quick start and never looked back on the way to 75-38 victory over St. Louis Community College on Wednesday night, Feb. 18 inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
SFCC (25-1) jumped out to a 13-4 lead with five minutes and 37 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The Lady Roadrunners led 43-15 at halftime and cruised to the victory.
SFCC got a balanced scoring effort with three players in double figures. Newland also led the team in steals with six and assists with seven. Freshman guard Chloe Reed of Wentzville, Mo. added 11 points and tied for the team lead in blocked shots with freshman guard Kamaree Pollard of Mt. Vernon, Ill. with two each.
"Our goal is to raise the bar across the board one through five," said Lady Roadrunners head coach Nicole Collier. "We worked through some kinks in the first half. We wanted today to be about growth, and I think we saw some growth. We took care of business. I thought we ended the game on a much higher energy note than the way we started it. I was proud of the way that Zoe responded after I didn't start her in the second half."
SFCC will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 21 with a Region 16 game at Crowder College. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
