Lady Roadrunners fall to St. Charles
The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners (21-28) softball team lost a pair of games to St. Charles Community College 4-2 and 13-4 in five innings because of the run rule at Ron Ditzfeld Field on Tuesday, April 28.
Sedalia, Mo.-The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners (21-28) softball team lost a pair of Region 16 games to St. Charles Community College 4-2 and 13-4 in five innings because of the run rule at Ron Ditzfeld Field on Tuesday, April 28.
In game one, freshman utility player Jaden Mauzey of Mendon had two hits and two RBIs to lead the SFCC offense. Sophomore utility player Jenna Herald of Monett recorded a hit and a run scored. Sophomore first baseman/outfielder Courtney Dehn of Dearborn contributed a hit. Freshman utility player Shyanne Weibrecht of Perryville scored a run in the contest.
Freshman pitcher Addison Wallace of Carthage got the start in the circle for SFCC. Wallace pitched six innings, gave up four runs on nine hits, struck out four, and walked one. Freshman pitcher/second baseman Grace Evans of Fulton came out of the bullpen to pitch the final inning of the game.
In game two, the SFCC offense put together six hits. Freshman outfielder Madelyn Backes of Bonnots Mill launched her 15th home run of the season and drove in three runs. Weibrecht recorded a hit. Freshman outfielder/utility player Jillian Reller of Elsberry scored a run. Mauzey pitched in with a hit and a run scored. Dehn collected a double. Wallace doubled and scored a run. Sophomore pitcher/utility player Valerie Meyer of Houstonia registered a double and drove in a run.
Sophomore pitcher/second baseman Elana Clark of Maysville started the game in the circle for SFCC. Clark pitched 2 2/3 innings, gave up 12 runs, (one earned run) on seven hits, struck out three, and walked four. Evans came out of the bullpen once again for SFCC. Evans pitched 2 1/3 innings, gave up one run on four hits, and struck out three.
"I thought we played well in the first game, but we committed six or seven errors in the doubleheader today," said head coach Michele Rupard. "You can't win many games when you do that. We have Three Rivers at home on Thursday. We have to bounce back quick and have a good practice."
SFCC will return to action on Thursday, April 30 for another Region 16 doubleheader against Three Rivers College. First pitch from Ron Ditzfeld Field is scheduled for 12 p.m.
