Lady Roadrunners split a pair of games with North Central

Trenton, Mo. The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners softball team split a pair of Region 16 contests at North Central Missouri College in Trenton, Mo. on Saturday, April 18.
SFCC (19-24) fell in the opening game of the doubleheader 13-12, before bouncing back to win game two 9-1 in five innings because of the run rule.
In game one, SFCC put together 13 hits as a team. Sophomore utility player Jenna Herald of Monett led the team with four hits, including three home runs. Herald recorded a team-high six RBIs and scored four runs to lead the offensive attack for SFCC. Sophomore catcher Chelsye Graham of Ash Grove hit a pair of home runs, drove in three runs, and scored twice. Sophomore pitcher/utility player Valerie Meyer of Houstonia added a pair of hits including a home run, drove in a run, and scored twice. Freshman outfielder Madelyn Backes of Bonnots Mill recorded a pair of hits including a double and a run scored.
Pitcher/second baseman Elana Clark of Maysville got the start in the circle for SFCC. Clark pitched 6 2/3 innings, gave up 13 runs, (two earned runs) on 16 hits, struck out four, and walked one.
In game two, SFCC put together 15 hits. Graham added three more hits, including a double and a run scored. Herald pitched in with two more hits, including another home run, two RBIs, and a run scored. Backes contributed two more hits, including a home run, two runs scored, and an RBI. Freshman utility player Shyanne Weibrecht of Perryville pitched in with two hits and two runs scored. Freshman utility player Jaden Mauzey of Mendon contributed a pair of hits, including a home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Freshman third baseman Morgan Marshall of St. Joseph had a pair of hits and a pair of RBIs.
Freshman pitcher Corinne Tuck of Braymer got the start in the circle for SFCC. Tuck pitched five innings, gave up one run on five hits, struck out three, and walked one.
"Errors killed us in game one," said head coach Michele Rupard. "We have to do a better job of taking care of the ball. I'm glad the girls came back out in game two and did that."
Herald hit four home runs in four consecutive at bats. Chelsye Graham and Jaden Mauzey both hit their first collegiate home runs in the doubleheader.
