Sedalia, Mo.- The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners baseball team lost a 17-7 game in eight innings because of the run rule on Tuesday, March 3 at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field.
Moberly scored four runs in the top of the first inning. It was a lead they would never surrender.
SFCC (7-9) trimmed the Moberly advantage to 8-7, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Moberly tacked on nine runs in the top of the eighth inning. State Fair could not score in the bottom of the inning to keep the game going.
"I thought we showed some resilience offensively," said Roadrunners head coach Jud Kindle. "When you can't throw strikes, you're not going to win a lot of ball games. We got ourselves a hole early because we struggled to throw strikes. We got back into the game and found ourselves in the same situation struggling to throw strikes again. The game is pretty simple, if you throw strikes and give your defense a chance to play behind you, usually good things happen."
Middle infielder Ty Hall of Greene City, Mo. had a pair of hits and a run scored. Outfielder Collin Ross of Branson, Mo. tripled, drove in a pair of runs, and scored a run. Catcher Carter Rice of Sedalia, Mo. doubled and drove in two runs. Utility player Malachi Antle of Licking, Mo. also drove in two runs. Middle infielder Dayton Doll of Platte County, Missouri had a hit and scored a pair of runs. Outfielder Devin Wassmann of Platte City, Missouri, infielder Connor Rice of Sedalia, Mo., and first baseman Jake Kruse of Smithville, Missouri scored one run each.
Brayden Beckmann of Ashland, Mo. got the start on the mound for SFCC. He pitched 2 1/3 innings, gave up eight runs, six earned on six hits. He struck out four and walked two.
SFCC will return to action on Saturday, March 7 with a Region 16 doubleheader against Three Rivers College. First pitch from Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
