West Plains, Mo.-The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners baseball team opened their Region 16 schedule splitting games with Missouri State University-West Plains on Saturday, Feb. 28 in West Plains, Mo.
SFCC (6-7, 1-1 in Region 16) won the first game of the doubleheader 17-3 in five innings because of the run rule. The Roadrunners fell in game two 12-7.
In game one, the SFCC offense put together 17 runs on 11 hits. Outfielder Devin Wassmann of Platte City Mo. led the SFCC offense with two home runs and seven RBIs. Utility player Malachi Antle of Licking, Mo. had a pair of hits to go along with two RBIs and three runs scored. Infielder Connor Rice of Sedalia, Mo. hit a home run, a double, scored a pair of runs, and drove in a pair of runs. Middle infielder Dayton Doll of Platte County, Mo. hit a home run and scored three runs. Outfielder Collin Ross of Branson, Mo. hit a home run and scored three runs. Catcher Carter Rice of Sedalia, Mo. hit a home run, scored two runs, and drove in two runs. Utility player Casen Lett of Parkville, Mo. hit a home run.
Pitcher Tanner Patterson of Iberia, Mo. went the distance on the mound for SFCC. Patterson allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out six to earn the victory for the Roadrunners.
In game two, Ross had a pair of hits including a home run, scored three runs, and drove in one. Antle had a pair of hits and scored a run. Connor Rice contributed two hits, two RBIs, and a run scored. Lett hit another home run. Catcher Jose Arquez of Columbia, South America drove in a run. As a team, the SFCC offense had seven runs and nine hits.
Pitcher Hunter Jones of Branson, Mo. got the start on the mound for SFCC. Jones pitched four innings, gave up four runs (two earned runs) on three hits, struck out two. and walked three.
SFCC will return to action on Sunday, March 1 with a doubleheader against Missouri State University-West Plains. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
