Roadrunners pick up road victory
The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners baseball team won their second consecutive game with a 14-13 victory over Allen Community College on Tuesday, Feb. 24 in Iola, Kan.
The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners baseball team won their second consecutive game with a 14-13 victory over Allen Community College on Tuesday, Feb. 24 in Iola, Kan.
The Roadrunners exploded for nine runs in the top of the second inning to take a 9-1 lead early in the game and battled back after Allen took the lead in the sixth inning. Allen 13-11 lead after seven innings. The Roadrunners answered with two runs in the eighth and a run in the ninth to finish the scoring.
Sophomore outfielder Collin Ross of Branson, Mo. recorded three doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI. Sophomore utility player Malachi Antle of Licking, Missouri also recorded three hits including a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Freshman middle infielder Dayton Doll of Platte County, Missouri hit a pair of home runs, drove in four runs, and scored twice. Catcher Garrison Hartsell of Pleasant Hill registered a pair of hits including a double. Outfielder Devin Wassmann of Platte City, Missouri doubled and drove in a run. Infielder Connor Rice of Sedalia, Mo. added a double, scored a run, and drove in a run. Freshman first baseman Jake Kruse of Smithville, Mo. hit a home run, drove in a pair of runs, and scored twice. Catcher Jose Arquez of Columbia, South America hit a home run and drove in two runs. Utility player Casen Lett of Parkville, Mo, scored three runs.
Pitcher Carter Hollingsworth of St Peters, Mo. got the start on the mound for SFCC. Hollingsworth pitched two innings, gave up four runs on three hits, struck out two, and walked one. SFCC used five pitchers out of the bullpen to secure the victory. Pitcher Mason Kates of Lee's Summit, Mo. came on to finish the game for SFCC. Kates pitched one inning and struck out one.
SFCC (5-6) will return to action on Saturday Feb. 28 with a Region 16 doubleheader at Missouri State University-West Plains. First pitch is scheduled for 1 P.M.
