Sedalia, Mo.-The ninth seeded State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners women's basketball team will take on the 24th seeded Central Georgia Technical College in the opening round of the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship on Wednesday, March 25 in Lake Charles, La. Tipoff is scheduled for 10 a.m. central time from Townsley Law Arena.
The Lady Roadrunners (28-2) learned the news during a selection show watch party with a gathering of fans on Monday afternoon, March 16. This will be the second consecutive trip to the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship for the Lady Roadrunners. SFCC fell in the opening round last season. It is an experience they plan to use this time.
"We have a different maturity level going in this year. Last year, we knew what going to the National Tournament meant last year, but it was also the first time going," said sophomore forward Ellie Buscher. "You're on a big stage in a big arena and it's different. This year when we came in August we wanted to go back to the National Tournament. We don't want to go and just lose in the first round. We want to go and make a run."
The winner of the opening round game between SFCC and Central Georgia Technical College will take on eighth-seeded Walters State at 10 a.m. on Friday.
The Lady Roadrunners are coming off a loss in the Region Tournament Championship to Three Rivers College.
"I have a lot of faith in this team," said sophomore guard Sophia Edwin. "I feel like the loss on Friday gives us an even bigger chip on our shoulder to want things more. Coming off a loss, you can learn a lot of things."
This will be the sixth national tournament appearance for the Lady Roadrunners in the history of the program.
"I would like to thank the community for all their support all season," said Lady Roadrunners head coach Nicole Collier. "Our players feel their support. I feel it as a coach; there is no other place like State Fair."
