Roadrunners bring home awards from the ACUI/SCTP Greater Midwest Regional
Alda, Neb.-The State Fair Community College (SFCC) shooting sports team competed at the ACUI/SCTP Greater Midwest Regional at the Heartland Shooting Sports Park in Alda, Neb. on Oct. 18-19.
Alda, Neb.-The State Fair Community College (SFCC) shooting sports team competed at the ACUI/SCTP Greater Midwest Regional at the Heartland Shooting Sports Park in Alda, Neb. on Oct. 18-19.
The event consisted of three different disciplines American skeet, sporting clays, and American trap. Each competitor shot 100 birds in each event.
SFCC completed in American skeet first on Saturday. As a team, the Roadrunners scored 455 out of 500. Sophomore David Thomlinson of Hughesville, Mo. led the team with a 94. Sophomore Ben Wieland of Bunceton, Mo. contributed a 93. Sophomore Mason Rohan of Laddonia, Mo. pitched in with a 90. Sophomore Alex Hill of Belton, Mo. added an 89. Sophomore Broc Barnes of West Plains, Mo. also shot 89.
The Roadrunners competed in sporting clays to close out their first day of competition. As a team, SFCC scored 399 out of 500. Hill led the team with a score of 88. Rohan chipped in with an 82. Thomlinson contributed 79. Wieland scored 78. Sophomore Mitchell O'Reilly of Belton, Mo. added 72.
SFCC completed in American trap on Sunday with a team score of 478 out of 500. O'Reilly led the team with 98. Hill added a 97. Rohan pitched in with a 97. Barnes contributed a 93. Freshman Ava Chevalier of Belton, Missouri added a 93.
SFCC brought home four individual awards from the competition. Hill took first place In the Classic All-American for men. Hill finished third in sporting clays for men. O'Reilly finished second in American trap for men after winning a shoot off. Rohan took third place in the Classic All-American for men.
SFCC also brought home a pair of team awards from the competition. The Classic All-American Team took third place. The Sporting Clays Team also took third place.
"I was very pleased that our team was able to maintain their focus throughout the weekend and bring home a pair of team awards," said Head Coach Sarah Manuel. "I was also very proud of the performance of Alex Hill to be able to win the Classic All-American Male Shooter with a score of 274 out of 300. He did very well there in addition to his third-place finish in sporting clays. Mason Rohan took third place in the Classic All-American for men with a score of 269. Mitchell O'Reilly was able to secure second place in a shoot-off in American trap. I was very proud of Mitchell for being able to perform well in a shoot-off. Our kids are still working very hard together. It is very rewarding as a coach to see them grow each weekend and we just need to continue our growth into the event for next weekend."
SFCC will return to action at the Tri-State Shoot in Arkansas on Saturday, Oct. 25.
