Sedalia, Mo. – The State Fair Community College (SFCC) shooting sports team opened the 2025-2026 campaign with an exhibition against William Woods University at the Sedalia Rod and Gun Club on Wednesday, Sept. 3. The event consisted of 100 American trap birds per participant.
David Thomlinson shot a 94 to lead the charge for SFCC. Mitchell O'Reilly scored 91. Buzz Harris also shot 91. Alex Hill scored 91. Ava Cooper scored 90. They made up the top squad for SFCC with a total score of 457 out of 500.
Cooper also earned High Overall Female with a 90. Ava Chevalier shot an 87 to earn second High Overall Female.
"I thought our girls did a very good job," said head coach Sarah Manuel. "I would also like to highlight Buzz Harris. He really came out to compete as a freshman. He was in our top five. It was really good to see him step up to the plate and work his way into the top five with those sophomores. We have a very young team this year. There is a lot of talent."
"I would also like to congratulate Landon Schachtele who shot for William Woods last night. Landon began his career here at SFCC. He earned the High Overall Male Award last night. It's always good to see a recent graduate of our program be able to continue his academic and athletic career. It was also good to see another SFCC graduate, Connor Hess, coaching William Woods. It was a full circle moment for me as a coach. I was very proud of the way our team performed."
