The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners softball team saw their season come to an end with a 6-2 loss to North Central Missouri College in an elimination game at Ron Ditzfeld Field on Friday morning, May 8.
North Central Missouri got on the scoreboard with six runs in the top of the second inning. SFCC (21-32) responded with a run in the bottom of the third inning. SFCC would tack on one more run in the bottom the seventh, but could get no closer.
The Lady Roadrunners produced seven hits offensively. Sophomore first baseman/outfielder Courtney Dehn of Dearborn led the SFCC offense with two hits, including a double and an RBI. Sophomore utility player Jenna Herald of Monett chipped in with a hit and a run scored. Freshman utility player Jaden Mauzey of Mendon added a hit. Freshman outfielder Madelyn Backes of Bonnots Mill pitched in with a double. Freshman pitcher/second baseman Grace Evans of Fulton collected a hit. Freshman outfielder/utility player Jillian Reller of Elsberry recorded a triple and a run scored.
"We had one bad inning like we have had in many of our games this year," said head coach Michele Rupard. "We couldn't recover from it off offensively. We had some good at-bats late in the game. I felt like we should've done that earlier. We have a lot of sophomores who will be difficult to replace. We played 50 games this year and we usually don't get to 50 games until postseason. We dealt with some adversity. I thought the girls who played, played hard for us."
Pitcher/second baseman Elana Clark of Maysville got the start in the circle for SFCC. Clark pitched two innings, allowed six runs (two earned runs) on five hits, walked two, and struck out two. Sophomore pitcher/utility player Valerie Meyer of Houstonia came out of the bullpen to pitch five innings, gave up no runs on four hits, and struck out one.
