The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners softball team fell in a pair of Region 16 games to Three Rivers College by scores of 7-0 and 14-0 in five innings because of the run rule on Thursday, April 30 at Ron Ditzfeld Field.
In game one, SFCC (21-30) was held to just three hits. Sophomore first baseman/outfielder Courtney Dehn of Dearborn recorded all three hits for SFCC.
Sophomore pitcher/second baseman Elana Clark of Maysville went the distance in the circle for SFCC. Clark gave up seven runs (three earned runs) on seven hits, struck out one, and walked four.
In game two, the SFCC offense was held to just two hits. Freshman pitcher/second baseman Grace Evans of Fulton had a hit. Freshman third baseman Morgan Marshall of St. Joseph had the other hit for SFCC.
Freshman pitcher Addison Wallace of Carthage got the start in the circle for SFCC. Wallace pitched one-third of an inning and gave up six runs on five hits. Evans came out of the bullpen for SFCC. Evans pitched 4 2/3 innings, gave up eight runs (two earned runs) on eight hits, struck out one, and walked four.
"I think we had more errors than hits," said head coach Michele Rupard. "You're not going to win any games when that is the case. I was proud of the toughness that Elana showed after taking a line drive to the ribs and continuing to pitch a complete game in game one."
Sophomore catcher Katlyn Starke of Linn was honored with a Sophomore Day ceremony at the conclusion of game two.
SFCC will now prepare to host the Region 16 Tournament beginning on Thursday, May 7 at Ron Ditzfeld Field. SFCC will play an opponent to be announced at 3 p.m. in the opening round of the double elimination tournament.
"We are going to do a lot of hitting in practice to prepare for the Region Tournament," said Rupard. "We haven't hit on the field in a couple of weeks. We've been battling some injuries lately, we hope to get some players back before the Region Tournament."
