Freshman pitcher/second Grace Evans of Fulton went the distance in the circle for SFCC. Evans allowed six hits and struck out three to earn the victory.
"We played a great complete game in the first game," said head coach Michele Rupard. "Grace Evans pitched really well. She competed all game. In the box, we were composed and hit a lot of balls hard. Defensively, we made the routine plays and took care of the ball."
In game two, the SFCC offense continued to swing the bats well, totaling 19 hits as a team. Sophomore catcher Chelsye Graham of Ash Grove led the SFCC offense with four hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs. Herald had three hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Freshman pitcher Addison Wallace also contributed three hits including a double, three runs scored, and an RBI. Backes pitched in with a pair of doubles, four RBIs, and a run scored. Sophomore third baseman/catcher Natalie Crumpler of Exeter had a pair of hits including a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Sophomore outfielder Zoe Richardson of Mountain Home had a pair of hits, two runs scored, and an RBI. Freshman shortstop/utility player Haylee Cobb of Warsaw had a pair of hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored.
Sophomore pitcher/utility player Valerie Meyer of Houstonia got the start in the circle for SFCC. Meyer pitched two innings, gave up five runs, three earned runs on two hits, struck out one, and walked five.
"Game two was a little different," said Rupard. "We threw the ball around some on defense and gave them too many opportunities to stay in the game. We hit well, but late in the game we didn't make the adjustments we needed to in order to be able to win. Moberly kept fighting in every inning."
SFCC will return to action on Sunday, March 29 with a doubleheader against Jefferson College in Sedalia. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
