Bio

Kevin Thomas begins his seventh season as the head coach of the Roadrunners. He led the team to a 19-10 record and the Region 16 championship game during the 2015-2016 season. Thomas coached the Region 16 Most Valuable Player and NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Second-Team All-American Ronnie Rousseau III, who is continuing his academic and athletic career at Missouri State University. Thomas picked up win number 100 against Malcolm X College last November.

In his fourth year as head coach, Thomas led the Roadrunners to their most successful season in history. SFCC finished 26-7 and were undefeated in the regular Region 16 season and won the Region 16 tournament championship. SFCC also claimed a District 4 championship and a trip to the national tournament for the third time in program history. SFCC picked up its first NJCAA National Tournament win in a 111-99 overtime victory against Shelton State Community College, and Thomas was named Region 16 Coach of the Year. He coached All-American guards Kevin Punter and Joe Thomasson, who finished their collegiate careers at the University of Tennessee and Wright State University.

Thomas led SFCC to a 20-10 record and a Region 16 tournament semifinal in his third season as head coach. The Roadrunners earned a piece of the Midwest Community College Athletic Conference Championship, and Thomas was named Co-Conference Coach of the Year. He coached former Roadrunner Kenny Chery who earned Honorable Mention All-American honors and who went on to play at Baylor University and graduate.

He led SFCC to a 15-15 record and a Region 16 tournament semifinal in his second season, and in his first year as head coach, Thomas led SFCC to a 24-7 record and the program’s first Region 16 tournament championship game appearance since 1979.

Thomas’s career record as head coach stands at 108-73, and he has coached 16 players who earned All-Region honors and four All-Americans. Previously, he served as an assistant for three years under former SFCC Head Coach Dale Ribble.

Thomas came to SFCC after two years as a graduate assistant at Drury University for Head Coach Steve Hesser. During that time, the Panthers amassed a 42-16 record with a pair of NCAA Division II tournament appearances.

He moved to the coaching ranks after a two-year career at Drury. Thomas led the Panthers in scoring as a senior, averaging 12.7 points per game. During his junior year, he started all 32 games, averaging 9.1 points per game and helped the Panthers to the NCAA Division II South Central Region Championship game in 2004.

Thomas began his collegiate career at Region 16 rival Three Rivers Community College where he led the Raiders to an NJCAA National Tournament berth. Three Rivers finished that season 30-6.

The Jacksonville, Florida, native earned his bachelor's degree in History/Education and a master’s degree in Education from Drury. He and his wife Taylor reside in Sedalia with their three children, son Cooper, 7, and twins, son Kingston and daughter Charlie who are 3. Taylor teaches first grade at Heber Hunt Elementary in Sedalia.
