Roadrunners suffer heartbreaking overtime loss
Park Hills, Mo.-The State Fair Community College SFCC) Roadrunners men’s basketball team lost a tough 79-74 Region 16 game in overtime to Mineral Area College at Park Hills, Mo.
Park Hills, Mo.-The State Fair Community College SFCC) Roadrunners men's basketball team lost a tough 79-74 Region 16 game in overtime to Mineral Area College at Park Hills, Mo. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday and was moved because of expected snow and cold temperatures throughout the area.
SFCC (11-12, 2-3 in Region 16) stormed out to a 26-6 lead with less than eight minutes remaining until halftime. The Roadrunners held a 40-26 lead at halftime.
Mineral Area trimmed the advantage to 44-35 with 15 minutes and 38 seconds remaining in regulation. SFCC led 54-52 with about nine minutes remaining. Both teams continued to battle. SFCC led 61-56 with less than four minutes remaining courtesy of an old-fashioned three-point play from freshman guard guard/wing Andin Ashford of Wilkesboro, N. C.
The score was tied at 63 when Ashford made a pair of free throws to give SFCC a two-point lead with 51 seconds remaining.
SFCC had the ball in a tie game with 18.7 seconds remaining in regulation. The Roadrunners missed a shot on the final possession; the game went into overtime tied at 65.
Mineral Area made just enough plays in overtime to secure the victory.
SFCC will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at Three Rivers College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
