Roadrunners fall in Region opener
Park Hills, Missouri- The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners men’s basketball team lost a 90-61 game to Mineral Area College on Wednesday, Jan. 7. The game was part of the Region 16 schedule for both teams.
Park Hills, Missouri- The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners men's basketball team lost a 90-61 game to Mineral Area College on Wednesday, Jan. 7. The game was part of the Region 16 schedule for both teams.
SFCC (9-10, 0-1 in Region 16) led 4-0 early in the contest. Mineral Area responded with a 9-0 run to take the lead. Mineral Area pushed the advantage to 29-13 with 10 minutes to go in the half.
The Roadrunners fought their way back into the game. SFCC trailed 42-33 at halftime. Mineral Area took control of the game in the second half outscoring SFCC 48-28 to provide the winning margin.
"We had a tough time handling their pressure which allowed them to get into transition," said Roadrunners head coach Jeremy Jackson. "We held on, but the avalanche came midway through the second half."
Freshman wing JP Ndong of Germany Senegal led SFCC in scoring with 13 points. Freshman guard/wing Andin Ashford of Wilkesboro, N.C. contributed 11 points off the bench. Freshman wing Da'Ron Hall of Nashville, Tenn. pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Freshman guard Chanler Joseph of West Palm Beach, Fla. dished out a team-high three assists. Sophomore forward Malick Ndiaye of Dallas, Texas led the team in steals with three. Ndiaye and sophomore forward Daniel Garza of Hammond, Ind. and Hall all tied for the team lead in blocked shots with two.
SFCC will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 10 for a home contest against Three Rivers Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
