SFCC esports wraps up successful fall campaign
Sedalia, Mo. The State Fair Community College (SFCC) esports team wrapped up another successful fall campaign with another NJCAAE National Championship and top 16 finishes in three other titles.
Sedalia, Mo. The State Fair Community College (SFCC) esports team wrapped up another successful fall campaign with another NJCAAE National Championship and top 16 finishes in three other titles.
The Call of Duty: Warzone team consisting of Isaac Wheeler and Kegan Anderson went 10-0 in qualifiers, 6-1 in the regular season and finished the season with the third NJCAAE National Championship in the history of the program.
"This team had an incredible season start to finish," said head coach Jacob Coleman. "They rode momentum into playoffs, played arguably some of the best matches we've ever had in our program under pressure, and dominated the national championship."
The Call of Duty 4v4 Team made up of Conner LaRose, Eli Hunziger, Isaac Wheeler, and Kegan Anderson went 9-1 In qualifiers, 5-0 in the regular season and finished third in the nation.
"The team gelled extremely well this semester, building strong chemistry and refining their rotations," said Coleman. "They had a dominant regular season, then in playoffs they narrowly missed advancing in the semifinals but bounced back in the third-place match."
The Overwatch Team made up of Rayna White, Jemyle Thomas, Kolby Hatch, Trenton Hardy and Hayden Asbury went 6-0 in qualifiers, 6-1 in the regular season and finished third in the nation.
"Our Overwatch squad put in consistent, steady improvement," said Coleman.
Jose Lorenzo represented SFCC in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Lorenzo went 8-2 in qualifiers and 10-3 in the regular season to finish in the top 16 nationally.
"Jose had a breakout campaign this fall," said Coleman. "He refined his gameplay, made strong adjustments throughout the season, and performed consistently in tournament settings. At nationals, he competed in a stacked field and secured a top 16 finish nationally, which is an excellent achievement given the depth of competition."
Coach Coleman was pleased with the performance of his program during the season.
"Overall, I felt like this was a fantastic semester for our program," said Coleman. "We saw growth, consistency, and results across multiple titles, and these top four teams especially stood out for their performance, resilience, and success."
