Two State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners student-athletes have earned All Region 16 baseball honors from the coaches in Region 16. Devin Wassmann of Platte City, Mo, earned All-Region 16 first team honors at designated hitter. Pitcher Maverick Gentry of Polo, Mo. earned All-Region 16 second team honors as a relief pitcher.
Wassmann led SFCC in batting average at .389, home runs with 22 and RBIs with 72. Wassmann also led the team in hits with 72, doubles with 19, extra-base hits with 42, slugging percentage at .859, and on-base percentage with .484. He also finished second on the team in runs scored with 53. He played 56 games and started in 50.
"Wassmann had a record-breaking year for us," said Roadrunners head coach Jud Kindle. "He broke our single-season home run record along with our career home run record. He was the catalyst for our offense this year. He hit for a high average, for him to be able to put the numbers up that he did with teams pitching around him was pretty incredible."
Gentry pitched 10 games and made one start this season. He recorded a 3.28 earned run average with a team-high four saves. Gentry pitched 24 2/3 innings, gave up 25 hits, nine earned runs, struck out 29, and walked five during the season.
"Maverick had some arm issues early in the season," said Kindle. "However, during Region play he was the guy who you wanted to have the ball on the mound. He will be a big part of our pitching staff next year. We are looking for him to come in and do big things."
