Roadrunners start fast, defeat John Wood
Sedalia, Mo.-The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners baseball team played a good all-around game to defeat John Wood Community College 11-1 in five innings because of the run rule on Tuesday, March 24 at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field in Sedalia.
Sedalia, Mo.-The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners baseball team played a good all-around game to defeat John Wood Community College 11-1 in five innings because of the run rule on Tuesday, March 24 at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field in Sedalia.
SFCC (12-18) scored six runs in the bottom the first inning to take control of the contest. SFCC scored two runs in the third inning, two more in the fourth inning, and one in the fifth to finish the game.
"Our guys had good approaches at the plate," said head coach Jud Kindle. "We hit some line drives and had some balls drop. That was the cleanest game that we have played all year. We established the lead and then we built on that lead. We played good clean defense and ran the bases well. Our pitchers also did a good job throwing strikes."
The SFCC offense put together 11 hits in game. Outfielder Devin Wassmann of Platte City, Mo. led the offensive attack with three hits, including a home run and a double. Wassmann drove in three runs and scored twice. Catcher Carter Rice of Sedalia, Mo. had a pair of hits and scored a run. Utility player Malachi Antle of Licking, Mo. doubled and drove in two runs. Catcher Garrison Hartsell of Pleasant Hill, Mo. hit a home run, and drove in two runs, and scored twice. First baseman Grayson Harris of Independence, Mo. also scored a pair of runs.
Pitcher Hunter Jones of Branson, Mo. got the start on the mound for SFCC. Jones pitched two innings, gave up one run on two hits, and walked one. Pitcher Jake Riggin of Lee's Summit, Mo. came out of the bullpen to pitch one inning and walked one. Pitcher Brayden Beckmann of Ashland, Mo. finished the game for SFCC. He pitched two innings, walked two, and struck out two.
SFCC will return to action on Saturday, March 28 with a Region 16 doubleheader at St. Louis Community College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
