Three Roadrunners Earn All-Region Honors in Baseball

Three State Fair Community College (SFCC) baseball student-athletes have earned 2021 Region 16 Baseball All-Region honors. Freshman infielder/outfielder Jacob McWhirter of Guelph, Ontario earned First-Team honors at designated hitter. Redshirt sophomore outfielder Tommy Ruether of Washington earned Second-Team honors. Sophomore catcher Dylan Thompson of Camdenton was named Second-Team. The honors were voted on by the coaches in the Region.

McWhirter led the team with 14 home runs and a .798 slugging percentage. McWhirter had a .363 batting average in 40 games. McWhirter finished second on the team in total bases with 99 and extra bases with 26. He finished third on the team with 12 doubles and 43 RBI. McWhirter finished fifth on the team in hits with 45.

"I thought Jacob did a great job offensively for us this season," said Roadrunners Head Baseball Coach Jud Kindle. "I thought he was definitely one of the top power hitters in our region. He had a great freshman year for us."

Ruether led the team in plate appearances with 198 and at-bats with 161. He finished tied for first on the team with 54 hits, including two triples. Ruether had a batting average of .335 in 44 games. He finished second on the team with 46 runs and 13 doubles. Ruether finished tied for second on the team with five stolen bases. He finished third with 26 walks and 23 extra-base hits. Ruether finished fourth on the team in RBI with 40.

"I am super proud of Tommy and all of his accomplishments over the last couple of years," said Kindle. "He developed into a great all-around player."

Thompson had a batting average of .340 in 43 games and led the team with 48 RBI. He finished second on the team in home runs with 11 and slugging percentage at .652. Thompson finished fourth on the team with 48 hits, 11 doubles and 22 extra-base hits. He finished tied for fourth in total bases with 92 and 37 runs scored.

"I could not have asked for a better catcher," said Kindle. "He really came on offensively for us this year."

"I am very proud of all three of our representatives on the All-Region Team," said Kindle.
