SFCC celebrates another successful academic and athletic year
Sedalia, Mo.-The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Athletic Department gathered with faculty, staff, student-athletes, parents, and boosters to celebrate another successful year at SFCC.
Sedalia, Mo.-The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Athletic Department gathered with faculty, staff, student-athletes, parents, and boosters to celebrate another successful year at SFCC. The department held its annual All-Sports Athletic Awards on Tuesday, May 5 inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center. Doug Sokolowski served as the MC for the event.
State Fair Community College President Dr. Brent Bates welcomed those in attendance and talked about some of the accomplishments of the athletic department throughout the year. He also talked about how much fun it is to celebrate these accomplishments. However, Dr. Bates told the student-athletes the most important accomplishment that any student-athletes will have at SFCC is when they walk across the stage at graduation to receive their diploma.
SFCC Cross Country and Track and Field head coach Brad Hagedorn opened the program. He talked about yet another Region 16 Championship for both the men and women's cross country programs. Carter Moss, Hayden Krentz, and John Kuntze all earned All-Region honors. Moss became the first cross country student-athlete to earn All-American honors with his performance at the national meet. Maryn Clausing, Alexis Riddle, and Emily Trelow earned All-Region honors for the Lady Roadrunners.
Hagedorn recognized Colby Jenkins for his All-American performance at the Indoor national championships in the heptathlon. Hagedorn also recognized Callie McWilliams for her All-American performance in the triple jump at the indoor national championships. Raul Ramirez earned the Men's Track and Field Rowdie Award. Katelyn Burbank earned the Women's Track and Field Rowdie Award.
Soccer head coach Michael Poropat spoke about the season for his teams. Ella Smith was named a NJCAA Division II Third Team All-American. Smith is the second Lady Roadrunner in the history of the program to earn All-American honors.
Smith was named First Team All-Region 16. Smith was also named Player of the Year in the region. She is the first women's soccer student-athlete to earn the award. Goalkeeper Valeria Morales was named to the Second Team, along with defender Emily Ramirez.
Three men's soccer student-athletes also earned honors from the coaches in Region 16. Malachai Bonney and Nathan McCollin were named to the First Team All-Region 16. Mohammad Sami Goodarzi was named to the Second Team.
Poropat also recognized Adamaris Ramirez as SFCC Soccer Coach of the Year.
Lady Roadrunners' basketball head coach Nicole Collier recapped one of the best seasons in the history of the program. Ellie Buscher earned First Team All-American honors, First-Team All-Region, Region Player of the Year, and Region Defensive Player of the Year.
Chloe Reed was named Honorable Mention All-American. Reed was also named First Team All -Region, along with Zoe Newland and Sophia Edwin. Maliyah White was named Second Team All-Region.
Jonise Barcene earned the Hype Man Award. Taylor Wilson was the Most Improved Player. Carolyn Foster earned the Heart and Hustle Award. Kamaree Pollard earned the Roadrunner Award.
Roadrunners head basketball coach Jeremy Jackson talked about his first season with the program.
JP Ndong and Andin Ashford earned First Team honors in Region 16. Gavin Q Murphy was named Second Team All-Region 16.
Ndong was named the Player of the Year. Ashford was named the Newcomer the Year. Damian Dirden earned the Heartbeat Award. The Glue Award went to Daniel Garza. The Roadrunner Award was given to Malick Ndiaye.
Spirit squad head coach Dawn Macklin-Gulick talked about the season for her squad. She presented the Roadrunner Award to Josie Bryant. Macklin-Gulick also presented Academic Awards to Bryant, Chloe Johnson, and Emily Fetterman.
SFCC shooting sports head coach Sarah Manuel talked about another successful season for the program. She presented the following awards. The Most Improved Award went to Zoey Wilson. The Marathon Leader Award went to Mitchell O'Reilly. The Impact Award went to Lucy Crocker. Manuel also announced that O'Reilly will continue his academic and athletic career at Drury University.
Esports head coach Jacob Coleman went through some of the highlights of the successful spring and fall seasons for the program. During the Fall 2025 campaign, Warzone placed first. Overwatch placed third and Call of Duty 4v4 placed third. During the spring season Warzone had an undefeated season with 1st in Regionals and advancing to Grand Finals. Fortnite placed second in the NJCAAE. Fortnite also won the Region 16 Championship.
Coleman also presented the following awards. The Most Improved Award went to Isaak Smith. The Best Record Award went to Call of Duty Warzone. The GOAT went to Isaac Wheeler. The Most Dedicated Team Award went to Overwatch. The Swiss Army Knife went to DaMarcus Rich. The Excellence Award went to Trenton Hardy and Jacob Merritt
Baseball coach Jud Kindle talked about the season for his team. Kindle presented the following awards. Devin Wassmann earned the Player of the Year Award and the Hitter of the Year Award. The Pitcher of the Year Award went to Maverick Gentry. The Roadrunner Way Award went to Jake Riggin
Softball head coach Michele Rupard discussed the just completed regular season for her program. Rupard presented the Defensive MVP Award to Jenna Herald. The Pitcher of the Year Award went to Elana Clark. The Offensive MVP Award went to Madelyn Backes. The Rowdiest Roadrunner Award went to Piper Costello and Jaden Mauzey.
Athletic Director Darren Pannier was given an award from each program in recognition of his leadership of the State Fair Community College Athletic Department.
Coach Pannier closed the evening by thanking each member of the athletic staff for their contributions throughout the year. He also thanked his family for believing in him and allowing him the opportunity to become an athletic director as he prepares to step away at the end of the year. Pannier and the athletic department presented Dr. Bates with a framed jersey as a token of appreciation for his service to State Fair Community College.
