State Fair Community College to host 24th annual W-K Holiday Shoot-Out
Sedalia, Mo.- Local basketball fans will have an opportunity to see some of the best high school basketball players and teams in the area at the 24th annual W-K Holiday Shoot-Out.
Sedalia, Mo.- Local basketball fans will have an opportunity to see some of the best high school basketball players and teams in the area at the 24th annual W-K Holiday Shoot-Out. The Shoot-Out features 42 local teams playing 21 games throughout the month of December. The event begins on Wednesday, Dec. 17, and continues Dec. 19, Dec. 20, and Dec.27 at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the State Fair Community College campus.
The idea for the Shoot-Out came 25 years ago from Tom Knight, who was the athletic director at Smith-Cotton High School.
"The Shoot-Out gives student-athletes from around the area the opportunity to play on a collegiate floor," said SFCC Athletic Director Darren Pannier. "It also gives an opportunity to see what State Fair Community College has to offer. Hopefully, all the teams have an enjoyable time at the Shoot-Out."
The event will begin on Wednesday, Dec. 17, with a doubleheader between Windsor and Lone Jack. The girl's game will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the boy's contest at 7:30 p.m.
The games on Friday, Dec. 19 will begin with a girl's game between Chilhowee and Norborne at 4:30 p.m., followed by a boy's contest between Chilhowee and Norborne. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. A doubleheader between Osceola and Crest Ridge will follow. The girl's game will tip off at 7;30, followed by the boy's contest at 9 p.m.
The action on December 20 will begin with a doubleheader between Cole Camp and St. Paul's Concordia. The girl's game will tipoff at 10:30, followed by the boy's game at 12 p.m. A doubleheader between Santa Fe and Warsaw will be the next two games on the schedule. The girl's contest will tipoff at 1:30 p.m. followed by the boy's game at 3 p.m. the Sacred Heart and Kingsville girls will play at 4:30 p.m. followed by the Sacred Heart and Kingsville boys at 6 p.m. the third day of action at the event will close with a doubleheader between the Smith-Cotton girls game against Bolivar which is scheduled to tipoff at 7:30 p.m. The Smith-Cotton boys will take on Father Tolton Catholic at 9 p.m.
After a break for the Christmas holiday, action will resume on Dec. 27, with a single boy's game between Warsaw and Oak Grove which is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. A doubleheader between LaMonte and Green Ridge will follow with a girl's game at 12p.m., followed by the boys contest at 1:30 p.m. A doubleheader between Otterville and Northwest is scheduled for a 3 p.m. tipoff for the girl's game, with the boy's game to follow at 4:30 p.m. p.m. A doubleheader between Lincoln and Concordia will close out this year's event. The girl's contest is scheduled to tipoff at 6 p.m., followed by the boy's game at 7:30 p.m.
The title sponsor of the event is W-K Sedalia. The co-sponsors are McDonald's, Pummill's Sporting Goods, Culligan, Jones Bros. Ag., Show-Me Sports Network, and Bothwell Peak Sport and Spine.
"The sponsors help make sure that the doors stay open," said Pannier. "It's a costly event. I believe SFCC really benefits from it because it gets prospective students on campus."
The admission price for the event is 10 dollars per day for adults, high school students with ID are admitted for five dollars and kids 12 and under are admitted free.
