This game was moved to Sedalia because of wet field conditions in Kansas City. Longview scored first with a run in the top of the first inning. SFCC responded with four runs in the bottom half to take a 4-1 advantage. Longview scored a run in the fourth inning, one in the sixth and two in the seventh to take the lead 5-4. MCC added a run in the top the ninth. SFCC pushed across one run in the bottom the ninth, but Longview emerged with a 6-5 victory.
SFCC traveled to Neosho on Friday, May 5 for game one of the Region 16 Sub Regional at Crowder College. The Roughriders came into the series ranked third in the country and seeded second in the Region 16 Tournament.
May 5, Region 16 sub-regional, Crowder College at Neosho Missouri The seventh-seeded Roadrunners played the second-seeded Crowder College Roughriders who also were ranked third in the country.
The Roadrunners scored first in the top of the first inning. Crowder responded with four runs in the bottom half. SFCC added a run in the top of the third inning. The Roughriders responded with four runs to take an 8-2 lead. Crowder added another run in the bottom of the fourth. The Roadrunners fought back with five runs in the fifth. Crowder scored four in the bottom of the fifth and scored two in the bottom the seventh to win 15-7.
May 6, Crowder College at Neosho Missouri
In game two of the series, SFCC was the home team. The Roadrunners scored first with a run in the bottom of the first. Crowder tied the game with a run in the top of the second. SFCC exploded for four runs in the fourth to a 5-1 lead.
The Roughriders responded scoring two runs in the top of the fifth and six in the top of the sixth to take a 9-5 lead. SFCC added two runs in the bottom the seventh. The Roughriders answered with two in the top of the eighth. SFCC scored two runs in the bottom the eighth to make the score 11-9 but saw their season end in the sub-regional.
SFCC ended the season with a 23-28 record.
"We did not quite reach the goals that we wanted to reach," said Head Coach Jud Kindle. "We are a young team, but I don't want to use that as an excuse. Our stats did improve from the first half of the season, and I am happy with how our guys improved throughout the season."
