Cowan to play for Florida Atlantic

State Fair Community College Lady Roadrunners guard Alexis Cowan has decided to attend Florida Atlantic University (FAU), a Division I university in Boca Raton, Florida.

Cowan, from Bolingbrook, Illinois, started in all 28 games for SFCC, tied for second in the country in three-point field goal percentage, making 50 percent of her attempts. She led in scoring with 12.4 points per game, shot 76.2 percent from the free-throw line, finished third in assists with 2.3 per game, and averaged 3.5 rebounds.

"We are very excited for Alexis," said Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "She visited FAU right after school was out with her dad and sister. She loved it there and had a good visit with Coach Jim Jabir. He showed her how she will fit into his style of play."

As a freshman, Cowan averaged 7.7 points, a team-high 1.6 steals and 1.8 assists per game. She helped the team to a 22-8 record and a Region 16 tournament championship.

During her sophomore year, Cowan helped the Lady Roadrunners to a 19-9 record and was named a third-team All-American by the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee. This is the 14th time a Lady Roadrunners basketball player has received this prestigious honor. Cowan is the first since Alecia Cooley earned first-team All-American honors in 2015.

She earned NJCAA Region 16 first-team honors and twice was named Player of the Week by Region 16 coaches. Cowan also earned Missouri Community College Athletic Conference Women's Basketball All-Conference first-team.

"Alexis was definitely a consistent player throughout her career," said Bucher. "She performed in every game. Florida Atlantic is getting an outstanding young woman who plays well on both ends of the court. I believe she will have an outstanding career."
